Skatepark
The Village of Madoc (pop. 1,320) is approx. 120 miles East of Toronto, and is situated at the junction of Highway 7 and Highway 62 in the heart of Hastings County. Who would think that an amazing concrete skatepark would be created for such a small community to enjoy? But this is surely the case, and if you have a vehicle and an urge to skate a new park its worth the drive.
I’m sure on any regular day there would be plenty of room to freely enjoy all of the various hips, ledges and quarter pipes the park has to offer. Unfortunately that was not the case on my visit, due to an event being held that day where everyone from the surrounding area came to participate.
This summer on Saturday, August 4th Madoc is holding their 3rd Annual Skateboarding, In-Line Skating, and BMX Competition. In other words, this would be the one day to NOT go to this park…
There are only 10 simple rules to follow when using this public facility, of which I’m sure we may have broken one or two at best…
1. This park is open from 7:30 AM until 9:30 PM or until dark. During the summer the park is open on Friday and Saturday night until 10:30 pm.
2 Only SKATEBOARDS, IN-LINE SKATES, and BMXs with maximum 20” wheels are permitted. Mountain bikes and scooters are prohibited.
3. BMXs must have pegs completely covered.
4. SMOKING, EATING, and DRINKING are not permitted on the skatepark. Glass containers are prohibited.
5. CSA approved helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards are strongly recommended.
6. No items such as benches, garbage cans, or tables may be used as ramps or jumps.
7. Spectators must watch from outside the skatepark.
8. This park is a drug and alcohol free zone.
9. Motorized vehicles are permitted only in the designated parking areas.
10. Use park at your own risk.
